food... fail

"I'm ready!"

We gave Liam his first taste of rice cereal last night. And these were his thoughts:

"What's this?"

"That was gross..."

"No thank you."

"I SAID I DON'T WANT THAT SLUDGE!"*

Obviously, it went well...
:)

*don't worry, we did not force it into his mouth! Jenna is just rubbing his head in encouragement :)

5 months

This month, Liam has really found his voice! If he's fed and rested he'll jabber on and on! And if someone coughs around him, he'll start fake coughing and then laugh at the funny noise he just made! :)
We each have our own ways of making him crack up laughing: I tickle his sides and neck, Jenna plays peek-a-boo, and Paul... just has to be in the room (it seems that way at least)!

He's mastered rolling over (and boy can he move fast!) and is now working on sitting up without help.

He won't sit back in his chair anymore!

He still loves to hold my hand while he sleeps, which is so sweet when we're at home. It's even cute when I'm forced to do my grocery shopping one-handed. But I think he takes it a little too far when I'm reaching my left arm around the right side of my seat while I'm driving! Not super safe... I really should put a stop to that.

I love to watch his little face as he discovers this world around him. I wish I could hear his thoughts as he studies his toys or makes hand puppets at himself!

I'd love to know what's going through his head here...
or here...

He immediately grabs everything we put in front of him (he gets especially excited if it's not his toy), squeezes it a little, bangs it on the floor if he can, and then tries to eat it.

He sees something he wants!

And he still loves to play with his own feet! Constantly pulling off his socks.

He's now going to sleep for the night at 11pm, which is a whole lot better than 2am! Hopefully in another month he'll be going to bed at the same time as Jenna!

Disney on Ice

One of the perks of Paul's job is that we occasionally get free tickets to local events. Last weekend we were able to score some pretty sweet seats to Disney on Ice! Jenna marked the day on her calendar in anticipation:

We all really enjoyed the show! I think Jenna was a little disappointed that they didn't show more of Sleeping Beauty (her current favorite), but she said her favorite part was the end when all the princesses skated with their prince.

Since we didn't have to pay for our tickets, we even let her get a souvenir! What a lucky little kid!

Obviously, Liam enjoyed himself as well  ;)

blended

Our blender has certainly earned its keep around here lately! I should thank Kathy (my 2nd mom in high school) again for getting us a great one for our wedding, because it is awesome!

It started when I saw an article about making baby food, and thought "that looks super easy". And it was. Super easy. Quick. And I assume a lot cheaper than the store stuff.
We made a whole bunch and froze it in 1 ounce cubes. Almost ready for Liam to start real food!

We started with green beans and sweet potatoes

Also...
I used to make fruit and veggie smoothies with milk and yogurt, but quickly gave them up. I've never really enjoyed yogurt. Or any dairy product that isn't ice cream.
I heard a lot about green smoothies, tried it, loved it, and make them all the time now. Yum.

banana, apple, strawberry, mango, flax seed, and kale

My Valentines

I love this picture so much!

Jenna thought it was so fun when Paul and I got breakfast in bed for Father's and Mother's Day, so Paul  woke her up this morning with pink heart pancakes, chocolate milk, and colorful daisies!

Paul got up super early to make breakfast and surprise us both with flowers :)
What a stud! We are so lucky to have him!

Jenna got to go to Joy School, make Valentine's for Mommy and Daddy, and then we had the bright idea to make peanut butter heart cookies. Normally this is a wonderful idea, but Liam wasn't in the mood and ruined the fun by screaming the whole time...
They still tasted good :)

That night we got Outback To Go, and played BANG! with our friends while Jenna and their little boy ran around and ate too much sugar.
A perfect day :)
