july, part 2

As soon as we got back from South Carolina, I left to be a group leader for our stake's Youth Conference. I was nervous, but it turned out to be one the best experiences ever! These kids are so fun, hardworking, faithful, and such wonderful examples. I'm so lucky I got to go!

Our ward's youth are the best!

Service project #1: We cleared this area of overgrowth to desegregate an old local cemetery.

Service project #2: Special Olympics

Relaxing at the lake, and cardboard boat races

Dance at this beautiful barn

My super embarrassing moment from Youth Conference:
One of the girls in my group had pretty serious asthma, so while most people walked to the lake I drove her over in my car. Of course a few other girls jumped at the chance to get a ride, and also bring a few of their things in my trunk (I think I may have a problem saying no...). Throughout the day they kept asking me to get their things from the trunk, and one time we somehow closed and locked the car with the key in the trunk (even though you're not supposed to be able to do that. We even tried it again later, and it didn't work.). My phone was locked in there as well. I had absolutely no idea what to do! I didn't know any of the other leaders, so I just walked up to a guy who kinda looked in charge and said "I locked my key in my car, and I don't know what to do!". He was sooo nice and calm about it, which helped me not to freak out. He helped my ask around to see if anyone had a wire hanger or anything similar, without announcing to everyone that I was the dope who locked her keys in the car. Nobody did, of course, so he and his son used one of his fishing poles to try to jimmy the lock open through the driver window. It didn't work even a little bit and he broke his fishing pole, so now I felt twice as bad. We concluded that the only thing to do was get another leader to drive me 15 minutes away (in order to get cell service), use his phone to call Paul (thank goodness I remembered his number), and ask him to load up the kids and drive over an hour to bring me the spare key.
Of course Paul did it without hesitation or a single complaint. The other leader drove me to the park entrance and waited there with me while everyone else headed over to where they were holding the dance. And no one made me feel like an idiot or that I was an inconvenience in any way (even though I totally was!). The rest of the conference, whenever I talked to people they were like "oh, you're the one who locked her keys in the car." Ya. Embarrassing.

Back home with the family:

We love playing at the bounce 'n play!

Jordan and the kids stopped by on their big summer trip, and he got us to finally go to Virginia Beach! No pictures were taken (oops), but we all had a great time. We also celebrated Oliver's birthday:

We finished July with a trip to the zoo:
